Digitalization and Automatization in Agriculture

  • Prepares skilled specialists capable of integrating agricultural knowledge with digital technologies, automation, data analysis, and intelligent decision-making systems.
  • Responds to the rapid transformation of agriculture toward Agriculture 4.0/5.0, where sensors, IoT, drones, GIS, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital platforms are becoming essential parts of agricultural production, management, and advisory services.
  • Designed within the framework of the UBT–BOKU 2030 Academic Reform, aiming to modernize the academic offer in line with market needs, digital transformation, and European integration.
  • Aligned with the priorities of the EU Common Agricultural Policy, where knowledge, innovation, digitalization, and AKIS are key elements in the modernization of the agricultural sector.

  • Designs and manages sensor systems, IoT, and monitoring networks for digital agriculture;
  • Uses farm information management systems and decision support systems;
  • Analyzes agricultural, experimental, imaging, spatial, and sensor-generated data;
  • Applies GIS, remote sensing, drones, and imaging technologies for monitoring soil, crops, and farms;
  • Uses artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision for agricultural diagnostics and monitoring; applies robotics and autonomous machinery; evaluates technological solutions from agronomic, economic, and environmental perspectives; and develops innovative projects for farms, agribusinesses, and public institutions.

  • Public administration and agricultural agencies; public and private advisory services;
  • Agribusiness companies, value chains, and agricultural input companies;
  • Agri-tech companies and technology start-ups;
  • Large farms, greenhouses, livestock complexes, and controlled production systems;
  • Technology and precision agriculture companies offering sensors, drones, smart systems, and digital platforms; development projects and international organizations; research institutions and innovation laboratories; as well as consultancy companies in agriculture, environment, GIS, land management, and rural development.

The program combines agriculture, environment, information technology, engineering, data analysis, robotics, economics, and innovation management. It is delivered with the contribution of units from the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment, the Faculty of Economics and Agribusiness, and the Faculty of Forestry Sciences, reflecting the need for integrated training in agricultural sciences, technology, and management.

Interdisciplinarity is implemented through joint modules on sensors, IoT, digital platforms, statistics, data science, AI, robotics, GIS/remote sensing, and digital laboratories. The program also includes elective courses that allow students to strengthen their background according to their prior education: students with an agricultural background can enhance their technological skills, while students with IT/engineering backgrounds can strengthen their knowledge in crop and livestock production, mechanization, and land and water management.

  • IT/Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science.
  • Engineering / Mechanization; Mechatronics; Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Agricultural Sciences and Environmental Engineering.
