Olive oil will now be analyzed at UBT. Today, the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food hosted the closing event of the project “Establishment of the Olive Oil and Vegetable Oils Analysis Laboratory,” a significant investment in the university’s research and laboratory infrastructure, supported through funding from AKKSHI (the National Agency for Scientific Research, Technology and Innovation).
The event was also attended by UBT Rector Prof. Dr. Fatbardh Sallaku, along with administrators, faculty members, researchers, and students from the Faculty of Biotechnology and Food. During the presentation, the project’s results were highlighted. The project was implemented over the period 2024–2026, coordinated by Prof. Dr. Kapllan Sulaj.
The new laboratory aims to strengthen UBT’s research and teaching capacities in the field of food technology by providing opportunities for advanced physicochemical analyses of olive oil and other vegetable oils. It will serve as a modern platform for the development of scientific research, support for master’s and doctoral studies, and the provision of laboratory services to the agri-food industry.
During the event, the instrumental equipment installed in the laboratory was also presented, along with the project’s implementation process and the expected impact of this infrastructure on enhancing the quality of scientific research, improving student training, and strengthening collaboration with institutions and partners across the sector.
This investment represents another important step by UBT in modernizing its research infrastructure and supporting the development of Albania’s agri-food sector, particularly in the field of olive oil quality control and certification. Olive oil is a product of significant economic importance to the country, and this initiative is expected to contribute to higher standards of quality assurance and industry development.
