The Agricultural University of Tirana has taken an important step toward strengthening its international scientific presence by participating for the first time in the Singapore International Water Week – Water Convention 2026, held from 15–19 June 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious platforms dedicated to addressing global water challenges through science, innovation, and collaboration.
Representing UBT at this global forum, Prof. Dr. Erinda Lika, Vice Rector for Science and Projects at UBT, participated as a Speaker in the workshop “Rethinking Water and Health: Integrating One Water and One Health”, contributing the Agriculture Perspectives case study from Albania and presenting research perspectives on the complex interconnections between water quality, agricultural productivity, ecosystem resilience, animal health, and human well-being.
The participation of UBT in this international scientific platform reflects the university’s growing commitment to advancing research and innovation in areas of global importance. The One Water–One Health approach highlights the need for integrated solutions that recognize the deep connections between water systems, ecosystems, agriculture, and human health, providing a critical framework for sustainable development, food security, biodiversity conservation, and resilient societies.
This milestone represents UBT’s first engagement in a prestigious global network focused on water, health, agriculture, and sustainability, demonstrating the university’s capacity to contribute to international scientific discussions through interdisciplinary research, innovation, and meaningful collaboration.
The research presented at Singapore by Prof. Lika is the result of her continuous scientific work developed within UBT laboratories, where researchers and academic teams are generating knowledge and evidence-based solutions addressing complex challenges at the intersection of environment, agriculture, technology, and public health.
Through its commitment to excellence in research, international cooperation, and knowledge transfer, UBT continues to strengthen its position as a leading university in the region, building bridges between scientific advancement and societal impact.
We would like to express our deepest appreciation to Dr. Tiong Gim Aw (Tulane University, USA) for his outstanding vision and leadership in conceptualizing and leading this important workshop, and to Dr. Joan B. Rose (Michigan State University, USA) for her exceptional contribution and internationally recognized leadership in advancing the One Health and water agenda.
Our sincere gratitude also goes to all distinguished speakers, moderators, researchers, and participants whose expertise, openness, and commitment transformed this workshop into a truly inspiring global dialogue.
The valuable exchanges, scientific collaborations, and partnerships initiated during this event represent an important foundation for future cooperation and reaffirm UBT’s commitment to contributing to global efforts for a healthier, more sustainable, and resilient future.
