Another doctoral candidate successfully defended his PhD thesis at UBT, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dr. Erinda Lika, Vice Rector for Science. Taulant Goga, from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, presented an advanced study in the field of biomaterials and osteochondral regeneration, which was awarded the maximum evaluation by the Commission.
The scientific study entitled “Tomographic Study of Bone Regeneration in Osteochondral Scaffolds with Different Biomaterials” addresses one of the most current issues in veterinary and regenerative medicine, analyzing the use of various biomaterials in the repair of bone defects. The study was also carried out in collaboration with the University of Bari “Aldo Moro,” bringing an international approach to scientific research.
The research highlights that composite matrices demonstrate higher performance in osteochondral regeneration, while emphasizing the important role of magnesium in enhancing osteogenesis and the mineralization process. Furthermore, the study concludes that regeneration stability can be achieved even in the early stages, opening new perspectives for further applications in clinical practice.
The evaluation committee consisted of representatives from the Agricultural University of Tirana: Prof. Dr. Luljeta Dhaskali, Prof. Dr. Rezart Postoli, and Assoc. Prof. Ilir Kusi, as well as external members Prof. Dr. Xheladin Draçini, Rector of the University of Medicine, and Prof. Dr. Vera Ostreni.
The maximum evaluation awarded to this study demonstrates the high level of scientific research and the growing importance of international collaborations. In this context, a special contribution to the completion of this work was also made by Prof. Dr. Antonio Crovace from the University of Bari, who provided significant support throughout the development of the study.
This result further reinforces the role of the Agricultural University of Tirana as an important center of scientific research in the field of veterinary medicine.
