The Agricultural University of Tirana welcomed the Ambassador of Spain to Albania, H.E. Gabriel Cremades, for a meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between Albania and Spain in higher education, scientific research, and innovation, with particular attention to the sustainable management of water resources.
During the meeting, the contribution of CIHEAM Zaragoza was acknowledged, along with opportunities to expand cooperation in education, research, innovation, and knowledge exchange in sectors of strategic importance to Albania.
At the heart of the discussions was the international conference “WATER 2030 – Modernising Water Management and Irrigation Systems for a Resilient Albania: European Experiences, Innovation and the Path towards EU Water Standards,” which will take place in Tirana on 3 November 2026, under the patronage of the Embassy of Spain in Albania, with the Agricultural University of Tirana serving as the lead academic institution.
The conference will bring together UBT, CIHEAM Zaragoza, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), BOKU University Vienna, GEO-WB6, and FAO Albania, creating a platform for discussion and exchange between Albanian institutions and European experts.
The conference will focus on the modernisation of water management and irrigation systems, water security, climate resilience, sustainable agriculture, and alignment with European water standards.
At a time when water resource management, climate change, sustainable agricultural development, and the European integration process are becoming increasingly interconnected, WATER 2030 aims to contribute to building a shared vision for a more modern, efficient, and sustainable water sector in Albania.
