At the conclusion of the 2025–2026 academic year, the Agricultural University of Tirana held a general meeting of the Academic Assembly and the administrative staff, during which the University's most significant institutional developments, the achievements of the past year, and the strategic priorities that will guide preparations for the start of the 2026–2027 academic year were presented.
In his address, the Rector of the Agricultural University of Tirana, Prof. Dr. Fatbardh Sallaku, presented the University's vision for academic transformation, inspired by the model of BOKU University in Vienna. He emphasized that the Agricultural University of Tirana is entering a new era of development founded on quality, international standards, and academic excellence.
The Rector presented the Agricultural University of Tirana’s new academic structure for the 2026–2027 academic year, which includes 12 Bachelor's degree programs, 17 Master of Science programs, 2 Executive Master's programs—one of them newly introduced—as well as 5 doctoral programs that are currently undergoing revision in line with the new academic standards.
A significant part of the presentation was devoted to the reform of the University's academic offerings. According to the Rector, the reform is not intended to reduce the number of study programs, but rather to transform the University's academic philosophy by enhancing quality, aligning curricula with international standards, and developing new programs that respond to the evolving needs of the labor market and the country's development.
During the presentation, the intensive work carried out over the past several months to revise the University's study programs was highlighted. A total of 30 workshops were organized with the participation of academic staff and experts from BOKU University, while more than 1,000 hours of academic work were dedicated to analyzing, reviewing, and developing the new Bachelor's degree programs.
Rector Sallaku also presented the University's achievements in scientific research and international projects. Currently, the Agricultural University of Tirana has 24 projects in the contract-signing phase for 2026, with an approximate success rate of 90%, 22 projects under implementation, around 200 staff members directly involved in project activities, and 29 international initiatives carried out under the Erasmus+, Horizon Europe, Interreg, APPEAR, READ, and bilateral cooperation programs.
The University's strategic priorities in the field of scientific research were also presented. These include strengthening institutional research policies, reforming the financial management system, modernizing doctoral studies in line with the BOKU model, increasing participation in national and international research projects, and further developing the University's research and laboratory infrastructure.
In his concluding remarks, the Rector outlined the University's key priorities for the period ahead, emphasizing that the focus in the coming months will be on promoting the new academic offerings, intensifying preparations for the start of the new academic year, supporting the implementation of the new study programs, expanding academic mobility and cooperation with BOKU University, and continuing the University's institutional reform to further enhance the quality of education, scientific research, and modern university governance.
