The Agricultural University of Tirana has received significant recognition from Petra Winter, President of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), who described the transformation of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine as an achievement that places the university on the same level as its counterpart institutions across Europe.
During a working retreat held in Vlora, where progress on the curriculum reform was reviewed, Winter praised the Agricultural University of Tirana's commitment to aligning its study program with the Day One Competences (D1Cs) framework and the standards of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE).
“I am convinced that the Agricultural University of Tirana has carried out a curriculum transformation that places it on the same level as its European counterpart universities and positions it very well for EAEVE accreditation,” Petra Winter wrote in a LinkedIn post.
She emphasized that it was inspiring to witness the tangible impact of EAEVE standards on the curriculum reform, commending the openness and professionalism with which the program's strengths and challenges were identified throughout the process. Winter also expressed special appreciation to the academic staff of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine for their commitment and dedication.
During the event, the President of EAEVE also delivered a presentation on modern approaches to teaching and assessment, focusing on student-centered learning, case-based learning, and competency-based assessment, all of which are regarded as key components of contemporary veterinary education.
On the final day of the meeting, participants discussed the next steps in the process, including strengthening biosafety measures in practical training, establishing monitoring mechanisms, and creating an Implementation Committee to oversee progress throughout 2026–2027 as part of the preparations for EAEVE’s preliminary visit in 2029.
Winter emphasized that EAEVE has consistently supported the Agricultural University of Tirana throughout this process, in collaboration with BOKU, Vetmeduni Vienna, and the Austrian Development Agency (ADA). She noted that this achievement would not have been possible without the preparation, commitment, and dedication of the staff and leadership of the Agricultural University of Tirana.
This recognition represents another testament to the Agricultural University of Tirana’s progress on its path toward European accreditation and the strengthening of its position as a higher education institution that meets the highest international standards in the field of veterinary medicine.
